The blackout reportedly started after last Thursday’s heavy rain and thunderstorm which ravaged the metropolis, destroying property worth billions of Naira, including electric installations in the city.
Besides the damaged electrical installations, large trees uprooted by the storm also fell on electric installations increasing the blackout which has affected many businesses in the metropolis.
A tour around town demonstrated that technicians who use power for their work have suffered the most, especially those who don’t own generators.
Mr Effiong Bassey a welder who recounted his plight to the reporter said it was getting too difficult to feed his family.
“Ever since last week once the rain fell, I haven’t created any income, my kids and family are suffering.
Another tech who gave his title as Aniekan stated that he works on phones and phone installations, electricity is an important instrument in our work
“With electricity, we cannot get the job done, I beg the power business to facilitate the installation of electricity as well as replacement of dropped poles in the affected areas.

Some people who had scheduled their unions and other social activities also had to expand their funding to accommodate the hiring of generators
“I have no alternative than to make available N50, 000 for additional energy, if not my guests won’t see cold drinks and the place will be hot and unconducive.
In the time of submitting this report, officials of the energy distribution company and Calabar Urban Development Authority as well as the Ministry of Environment were seen clearing the roads of debris.
