Boat capsized, 28 dead bodies recovered, 65 people rescued, others yet to be found

The Director-General, State Emergency Management Agency, Ahmed Inga, when touched on the issue stated the exact number of individuals who were on board that the capsized were approximately 100. He explained 28 bodies are recovered, 65 people rescued while the hunt for the rest seven is continuing.

Sixty-five individuals were rescued from the crash scene In Tijana, Munya council region of Niger, but seven people remain lost.

A ship conveying about 100 individuals including women and kids capsized midway at about 6:00 pm Saturday if the villagers were coming from a local marketplace in Zumba at Shiroro local government area of the country.

The Sarkin Kasuwan (Head of the Economy ) Zumba, Adamu Ahmed, explained that the retrieval of 30 bodies because search-and-rescue operations started Saturday night.

He clarified that the regional divers are still intensifying the hunt for more bodies as he stated that lack of aid in the region of logistics in the quarter is slowing down their hunt performance.

The ship that’s supposedly six months old in a heavy windstorm at rain on Saturday evening.

One of the victims was a few returnees who had previously fled their houses with their children because of bandit attacks.

Adamu stated, “A few of the victims were moving back to the village to visit and find some food thing and return back into Zumba where they’re taking refuge as a consequence of bandits actions in the communities that are affected.
