Mr Samuel Ben, a councillor representing Ward 6 Central in Akwa Ibom’s Eket Local Government Area, was kidnapped on Tuesday, according to police.
SP Odiko Macdon, a police public relations officer in Eket, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said the victim was kidnapped at his gas station around 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25.
Mr Andrew Amiengheme, the Commissioner of Police, has ordered an investigation into the incident, which Macdon described as “very unfortunate and unacceptable.”
“Yes, we received a preliminary report on the incident and are investigating it.
“An ongoing investigation is taking place as I speak, so I can’t deny that we have that information.
“A lot has already been done, and I believe he will be released soon.

“I don’t want to influence the outcome of the investigation or the police’s efforts to ensure the victim’s release,” Macdon said.
The police, according to Macdon, will ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
A family source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the councillor was kidnapped while taking stock of his fuel station’s business.
“When the incident happened, the wife and the councillor came to take stock of the account and take some money home,” he explained.
According to the source, the councillor went to his car to get money while his wife was locking the office door.
“At the same time, gunmen burst into the fuel station and kidnapped the councillor,” a family source said.

According to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN), Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 6, Usman Gonna, ordered the police in Akwa Ibom to investigate the kidnapping of two prominent sons of the state on September 17.
Sen. Nelson Effiong and Dr. Nsidibe Umana are two prominent sons of the state who are still being held captive by the abductors.
On September 5 and 7, they were kidnapped in Akwa Ibom, respectively.
