For the umpteenth time, Senate President Ahmad Lawan has stated unequivocally that the ninth National Assembly will not clash with President Muhammadu Buhari’s executive branch of government.
He also offered explanations for why the present National Assembly differed from earlier ones.
According to a statement issued by his media aide, Ola Awoniyi, in Abuja on Sunday, the Senate President spoke in Lagos on Saturday night while receiving The Sun Political Icon of the Year 2021 Award.
According to Lawan, the ninth Assembly was unusual in its ability to pass the most complex and important legislation that had previously failed to gain passage or assent.

“As a result, we believe the Legislature and the executive branch of government must always work together,” he stated.
They are free to disagree, but not to the point that citizens are denied access to government services.
“Service to our fatherland, service to our people, service to different senatorial districts and federal constituencies is paramount for us in the ninth National Assembly, and there is nothing more than that.”
Thank God, the ninth National Assembly has accomplished a great deal in less than three years in terms of significant, critical, and crucial legislation for national growth.
“We confront many obstacles, but it is also true and well established that we have accomplished a great deal in the last seven years.” We can overcome those obstacles if we band together and battle them.”
Lawan dedicated the honour to the National Assembly’s previous presiding officers, praising them for setting the groundwork for what the present Assembly has accomplished in less than three years.
“I am certain the prize has been presented to me since I have been in the Legislature or in the National Assembly for more than two decades,” he says.
I’m ecstatic that the Sun Newspapers are able to go through and see what the Legislature, the other branch of government, is up to, since the Legislature, more often than not, does not receive the attention it deserves from voters.
Since Nigeria’s inception as a democracy, I’ve dedicated this award to prior presiding officers because whatever we’ve accomplished in the ninth National Assembly must have been built on the shoulders of others before us.
As a result, I’d like to dedicate this prize to the former Senate and House presiding officers.
Let me say that one outstanding presiding officer, Senator David Mark, who served as Senate President for two terms, the sixth and seventh Assemblies, has taught me a lot. “And of course, the 13th President of the Senate, my brother and friend (Senator Bukola Saraki), who was here (for this occasion) before he left. As a Senate Leader, I worked with him. He, like the previous President of the Senate, made contributions. As a result, I cannot claim credit for the ninth National Assembly, although it does stand out in one regard. He stood out in the fight to pass the most difficult laws, which defied passage and, once passed, defied acceptance.”

President Buhari’s cooperation with the current National Assembly to get things done was also praised by the Senate President.
“Let me also pay respect to President Muhammadu Buhari because all the legislations would not have been assented to if it were not for the president’s buy-in to guarantee that the Legislature works very cordially with the executive arm of government,” he said.
And since the Fourth Republic began, this president has signed more bills than any other president.”
He thanked the Chief Whip of the Senate, who is also the founder of the Sun Newspapers.
“Not even the Senate President is safe from this Chief Whip.” He spanks everyone. We want to express our gratitude for being a forward-thinking, realistic, and trustworthy individual,” he added.
