In Rann, the headquarters of the Kala-Balge Local Government Area in Borno State, members of the Boko Haram sect launched a large-scale attack, killing over 60 farmers.
The bodies of the deceased farmers who were buried on Monday had several bullet wounds on them.
Many more people are still missing, according to residents.
“Boko Haram terrorists on motorcycles wielding guns and machetes surrounded their farms and began slaughtering them one by one,” a villager said.

“On Monday, more than 50 people were interred in Rann. More bodies have been discovered this morning, bringing the total number of deaths to over 60.”
Boko Haram has been increasingly targeting farmers, herders, and loggers, accusing them of spying for the Nigerian military and passing on information to them.
They’ve also raided herding communities, stealing cattle, a valuable commodity in the region, in order to fund their operations.
In Zabarmari, a community in the Jere Local Government Area, insurgents attacked a rice plantation in 2020, killing at least 43 farmers.
In recent months, Boko Haram and its offshoot, the Islamic State West Africa Province, have become more ruthless.
The Nigerian Army has repeatedly stated that the insurgency has been largely defeated, while downplaying any losses.
In Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states, the terror group has killed over 100,000 people and displaced millions.
