Breaking: Unknown Gunmen invade Kukah’s church, kidnap priests, others

It was learned that some unidentified gunmen broke into one of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah’s parishes in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sokoto early Wednesday.

The attackers stormed St. Patrick Catholic Church in Gidan Mai Kanbu, Kafur LGA, Katsina State, abducting the parish priest and his assistant Rev. Frs. Stephen Ojapa, MSP, and Oliver Okpara, as well as two boys in the house.

Although the spokesman for the Katsina Police Command, SP Gambo, said he had not received any report on the incident, the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto’s Director of Social Communications, Rev. Fr Christopher Omotosho, confirmed the development.

Terrorist groups known as bandits regularly attack several areas in Sokoto and Katsina states.

Repeated terror attacks in Sokoto state have reportedly displaced over 42,000 people.

Nigeria’s insecurity has been exacerbated by the violence in the northwest.
