Anambra: HURIWA calls on Peter Obi to to help in finding missing LP governorship candidate, Obiora

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has urged Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, to ensure the release of Obiora Agbasimalo, the party’s governorship candidate in the recent gubernatorial election in Anambra State.

Obiora is said to have gone missing during the election and no one has seen or heard from him since, prompting his mother, Ada Agbasimalo, to appeal to the government and security authorities for assistance in locating her son.

Obiora was one of the candidates in the governorship election won by Prof. Chukwuemeka Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.

His mother claimed that a political acquaintance of hers was kidnapped a few months before the election.

Mrs. Agbasimalo has also written an open letter to Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, requesting his assistance in hastening the release of her son, Obiora.

The LP candidate was kidnapped on September 18th, 2021 at Lilu in Ihiala Local Government Area, LGA on their way to Azia, also in Ihiala Local Government 4GA, according to his mother’s letter.

“As his mother, I have been traumatised and agonised to the extent that I now have major heart troubles,” the missing politician’s mother is pleading with Anambra South Senator Andy Uba to assist her in gaining her son’s return.

HURIWA called on Obi to intervene in the case, speaking to the press through its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko.

“We urge Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, to check into the disappearance and kidnapping of his party’s gubernatorial candidate in the last election.”

“He should take advantage of his privileged situation to ensure that security institutions do all possible to secure his release,” the human rights organisation stated.
