The Nigerian Army has confirmed that 204 Boko Haram terrorists and their family members have surrendered to troops in the country’s north-eastern region.
According to reports, the figure was made public on Wednesday, June 15 when army headquarters gave an update on its recent operations via its official Twitter page.
According to the army, the terrorists surrendered to troops deployed to deal with security issues in Borno State’s Bama Local Government Area.
The army boasted that a counter-offensive against Boko Haram fighters has continued to be a huge success.
“Today, 15 June 2022, the ongoing offensive onslaught against terrorism in the North East recorded another feat as 204 Boko Haram fighters, including their family members, surrendered to troops in Bama LGA of Borno State,” the tweet reads.
“The terrorists who have surrendered are still being profiled.”

Defence Headquarters (DHQ) had earlier this year announced that a total of 47,975 terrorists and their families had’surrendered’ to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in the Northeast between September 2021 and then.
While naval troops of Operation Delta Safe, operating in the Niger Delta region, discovered and deactivated 49 illegal refineries and arrested 22 vessels involved in illegal fishing, the army claimed that it had neutralised at least 17 top terror commanders and 35 armed bandits.
Maj. Gen. Bernard Onyeuko, Director, Defence Media Operations (DDMO), confirmed the statistics to journalists in Abuja.
7,000 Boko Haram and Islamic State for West African Province (ISWAP) fighters surrendered to troops with members of their families between March 10 and March 24, according to the top officer, bringing the total number of insurgents who have laid down their arms to 47,975.
