Kefas Agbu, the PDP’s candidate for governor in Taraba State, still has work to do because one of the candidates in the recently held primaries has petitioned the Federal High Court in Jalingo for justice.
Professor Jerome Nyame, the candidate, insisted that the party’s nominee had not submitted any nomination or expression of interest paperwork and had not undergone screening by the Bauchi State screening committee.
According to information received, Nyame has joined the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as a defendant in the lawsuit.
The aggrieved candidate claimed in his writ of summons that Kefas Agbu, the third defendant, is actually the PDP chairman and “is not actually qualified to participate at the primary election.”

Insisting that the Taraba PDP candidate did not obtain expression of interest and nomination forms “before the 14th April 2022 when same was closed,” Nyame pleaded with the court to prevent the candidate from misrepresenting himself as the party’s gubernatorial candidate.
He vowed to take all necessary steps to seek justice.
His request was for “an order directing the first defendant (INEC) not to accept, recognise, or otherwise deal with the third defendant (Kefas) as the party’s candidate for governor of Taraba State in the March 2023 election or any other such rescheduled date.”
He emphasised how Kefas presided over the party’s screening process as the party’s chairman before adding his name to the list of candidates at the last minute. Kefas pleaded with the court to order INEC to recognise, accept, and grant Nyame all the benefits and entitlements as the second defendant’s (PDP) candidate for Taraba State.
More candidates have also finalised plans to approach the court for justice as of the time this report was filed.
