Seven people, including a lawyer and a doctor, were taken hostage by gunmen on the Geregu-Ajaokuta road in Kogi State.
On Tuesday, around 2 PM, it was discovered that they had been kidnapped.
On Wednesday in Lokoja, the State Police Command confirmed the incident.
According to an eyewitness, the gunmen besieged the said road for hours while sporadically firing, abducting numerous passengers and injuring many others to varying degrees.
This source further suggested that Mr. Joe Abba, his wife, and Barrister Abba Aduojo were among those taken captive and taken to unidentified places while they were returning from a burial in a village close to Alloma in the State’s Ofu Local Government Area.
A doctor who has not been named who was reportedly returning to Lokoja from the Prince Abubakar Audu University Teaching Hospital, Anyigba, when he was also abducted.

According to a relative of one of the victims, “They were abducted at gunpoint around 2pm; my friend’s wife was shot in the leg and is currently recovering at the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja.”
The State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, William Ovye Aya, claims that after learning of the thugs’ attack, the command summoned the members of the nearby Rapid Response Squad.
Six people were rescued with gunshot wounds, seven people were kidnapped and taken to the bush, and six vehicles were found at the scene, according to him.
In order to free the seven abducted people they were holding, he continued, a joint manhunt against the thugs had begun.
