Galadima Abba-Itas, the Peoples Democratic Party’s North-East Zonal Treasurer, has resigned his position and party membership.
He stated that his decision was made in response to the party’s “unfair and unjust treatment” of former presidential aspirant and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, during and after the party’s primary.
He stated that the eventual selection of Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, which contradicted his political principles and ideologies, solidified his decision to resign from the opposition party.
These were contained in a letter he signed on July 12, 2022, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of the PDP of Itas Ward, in Bauchi State’s Itas Gadau Local Government Area, titled: ‘Letter of Resignation as Member and Zonal Treasurer, North-East,’ and obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday.
The development within the PDP, according to Abba-Itas, demonstrated that the opposition party was not ready to retake power from the ruling All Progressives Congress.

“I write to tender my resignation as zonal treasurer (North-East) and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP),” the letter said in part.
My resignation came as a result of extensive consultations with my teaming supporters and political associates, as well as in response to His Excellency, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CON, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, during and after the presidential primary convention.
“Equally, His Excellency Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s unconventional selection as the presidential candidate’s running mate, which contradicts my political principles and ideologies, solidified my decision to resign.”
“As a critical stakeholder, the unjust and unfair treatment of founding members posed a serious threat to our leaders’ and our collective political interests, necessitating my resignation in protest of how things are unfolding in the Party.”
“However, the current state of the party does not inspire confidence that the party will be able to reclaim power in 2023.”
The letter was received and acknowledged by Itas Ward’s PDP chairman.
As of the time of filing this report, it was unclear which party he would be joining.
