President Muhammadu Buhari has told Kashim Shettima, the running mate of the All Progressives Congress, APC’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, that he will respond to him when he hands over power in 2023.
Buhari was reacting to Senator Shettima’s flowery speech, according to a statement signed by Garba Shehu, the President’s aide on Media and Publicity.
Shettima was chosen as Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate in the APC’s contentious Muslim-Muslim-Muslim ticket, and was unveiled before the party’s leadership on Wednesday.
“I will respond to your speech when I hand over to you and your boss.” “You are going to win, God willing,” Buhari told Shettima.
Buhari stated this when he met with Shettima and Tinubu at the Presidential Villa shortly after Shettima was unveiled, adding that he is pleased with the choice of the former Governor of Borno State as running mate.

“I wish you the best. Your consistency in the party is very admirable. You completed your two terms as Governor successfully.
“You have maintained contact with your base. You show your support for the person who succeeded you at every significant occasion or event. “This is commendable,” he said.
Despite public opposition to a Muslim-Muslim or Christian-Christian ticket, Tinubu and his party chose Shettima as their vice presidential candidate.
Buhari, who could not choose Tinubu, a Southern Muslim, as his running mate in 2014, said he is confident that the former Lagos State Governor and his running mate will win in 2023.
Nigerians have had a mixed reaction to Shettima’s selection. While some argue that competence should be prioritised, others argue that Nigeria does not require a same-faith presidency at this time.
