Nigerians have reacted to the spat between Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi and All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer Bola Tinubu.
According to reports, the war of words began after a report claimed that Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo wrote Tinubu a letter urging him to step down for Obi and take care of his health.
Akufo-Addo, on the other hand, dismissed the report as “completely false” and “mischievous,” adding that it is not in his place to interfere in Nigeria’s internal affairs and politics.
In response, the Tinubu Campaign Organisation called on Obi on Wednesday to instruct his supporters to stop spreading false information about the APC presidential candidate.
The organisation said that supporters of the LP flag bearer have been purveying fake news to the general public which has been damaging the image of the former Governor of Lagos State.
In a swift response, Obi, in a statement signed by his Media Adviser, Valentine Obienyem, said it is wrong to link his supporters to fake reports about Tinubu, insisting that publications from the party are always properly signed and spelt out.
However, Nigerians have taken to social media to express their reactions to the war of words between the two presidential candidates.

@General_Oluchi wrote: “So Tinubu has joined the Wailers Club to report Obidients to Peter Obi? Who will caution all the agberos threatening violence on Obidients for him? Tinubu running for President is the biggest insult to Nigerians. He should drop off the race and stop being a nuisance.”
@kcnaija wrote: “I thought Peter Obi and his supporters were insignificant in the presidential race? I thought he doesn’t have structure. This is still morning. They have not to grind the beans and it is smelling.”
@Girl_isBlessed wrote: “Tinubu did not apologize for “they will labour till they die”. He did not apologize when his shoe shiner wrote their “Obi-tuary” in his own newspaper. His boys are making threats here but he is warning Peter Obi that didn’t say a word. THIS IS NOT 2015.”
@AfamDeluxo wrote: “Bola Tinubu’s team are dishing out all kinds of fake news using Bots account and alluding it to Peter Obi supporters. They dished a statement, credited to Ghanaian President with one of those accounts. These guys are desperate & ready to do anything to tarnish Obidents!”

@oga_pharmacist wrote: “I’m rather sad that Mr. Obi has to be severally put in precarious situations like this, where he has to be caution people who say they support him or even having to apologise on his behalf.
“He is a fine gentleman, it would have been great to see his supporters take after him.”
@Bj7super wrote: “Tinubu should get this right. In Labour Party, Peter Obi is not the principal. The people, Nigerians, are. The people are the ones contesting using Peter Obi as the Vehicle.
“Your complaint should go to Nigerians, not Peter Obi.“
