The five million Naira ransom was reportedly paid to the bandits on Tuesday in a bush close to some villages along the Kaduna-Zaria road, in Kaduna state, according to a source close to the family.

Less than twenty-four hours after the ransom was paid, the bandits confirmed his death, proving he had been killed for a long time even as the negotiations for his release were ongoing.

On his way to Abuja for the NYSC mobilisation of the polytechnic students, Sanusi, a native of Zamfara State’s Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, was kidnapped along with others.

They were taken captive and taken to an unidentified location along the problematic Kaduna-Abuja highway.

The news of Sanusi’s death by his captors comes just hours after it is claimed that armed bandits abducted six other people, including the wife of a military officer, after attacking some homes in Kaduna State’s New Millennium City.

Mass and selective kidnapping for ransom has become a daily occurrence in Nigeria’s North West region, which has also impacted farming and commercial activities in some of the affected states.

In spite of efforts by the government at all levels, security organisations, traditional and religious leaders, the threat persists.
