President Muhammadu Buhari has told those calling for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), that Kanu’s release will be decided by a court of competent jurisdiction.
He said this in Abakaliki during a two-day working visit to Ebonyi State to commission projects overseen by Governor David Umahi, during which he met with South-East leaders who demanded, among other things, Kanu’s release.
In response, President Buhari stated that the case of Nnamdi Kanu will be decided by the courts, while also lamenting the zone’s growing insecurity.

He reiterated that anyone other than security agents seen carrying an Ak-47 should be treated as a criminal, and vowed that terrorism and banditry must be eradicated for peace to reign.
He denounced the recent killing of two soldiers, calling it “wicked” and “barbaric.”
“I must express my deep concern about the deteriorating state of security affairs in the southeast,” he continued. “I was informed of the latest brutal assault by a gang of terrorists who prey on innocent and hardworking citizens in the last 48 hours,” he said.
