Disabled Kids deserve equal access to basic education – UBEC

Kids with disabilities will have equal accessibility to schooling like their peers as the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC partners with the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPND) to supply special needs learning for kids

The Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr Hamid Bobboyi who disclosed this at the weekend, also clarified that every disabled child of school-going age will receive basic education tailored to their needs under the partnership.

He explained the intervention for children with disability was coming at a time when a UBEC job on”Model Smart School”, made to deal with contemporary ICT needs of kids is about to kick off.

“The Commission amongst other mandates is saddled with the duty of making sure that each child of the school-going era has access to quality basic education no matter his/her disabilities or special needs, Dr. Bobboyi said.

Dr. Bobboyi explained that both Commissions will form a joint committee to address the various issues in physical accessibility such as toilet facilities and specialized instruction among others.

“This new partnership will really make a difference in the life of children with disabilities or particular needs because education is not selective regardless of disabilities or special needs”.

The National Commission of Persons with Disabilities is a national government based association saddled with the responsibility of promoting and protecting the right of individuals with disabilities in Nigeria.
