Hunters assisting the military in the fight against terrorism in the North-East are said to have killed a Boko Haram terrorist’s factional commander in Borno.
Local security officers were said to have engaged the terrorists in a gunfight in Shaffa Taku, a village in the state’s Damboa Local Government Area.
According to reports, Shaffa Taku is situated in the heart of the Sambisa forest, which is home to Boko Haram terrorists.
According to Mohammed Shawulu-Yohanna, the Chairman and Commander of the region’s hunters and vigilantes (Sarkin Baka), the hunters received information about the terrorists’ movements and pursued them in the bush.
In an interview with Channels Television, Yohanna stated that they were able to kill the terrorist’s commander and his deputy in a gunfight.

He also mentioned that the terrorists’ AK-47 rifle and motorcycle had been found and would be handed over to the Nigerian military in Biu soon.
“Yes, we acted on intelligence about the insurgents’ movement in the last two weeks,” Yohanna was quoted as saying by Channels.
“I mobilised my team and stormed the spot in the evening at Shaffa Taku, a deserted community in Damboa,” he explained.
“Fortunately, we saw a group of more than 20 terrorists riding motorcycles.”
“In a gunfight with them, we were able to kill the Commander and his deputy, while several others fled with gunshot wounds.”
According to reports, the insurgents have continued to terrorise several communities across the country, particularly in the northern region, despite efforts by security agents and the federal and state governments.
