Peter Sorro, a police inspector, was killed during a shootout with suspected kidnappers in Ifewara, Osun State.
It was also revealed that one of the kidnappers, a suspected Fulani herdsman, was killed during the gun battle.
On Sunday, the Osun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, revealed that the late Inspector Peter and two other police officers from the MOPOL 32 Squadron Ebonyi were assigned as escorts to E. C. Ice Resources Nigeria Limited.
According to Opalola, “At about 0900 hours, one Inspector Lato Abson of MOPOL 32 Squadron, Ebonyi State attached to E. C. Ice Resources Nigeria Ltd reported at Ifewara Division that at about 0810 hours, while they were closing from night duty from their mining site located Aruwa village via Ifewara at about 0700 hours, himself and one Inspector Peter Sorro and one other Sergeant of the same Squadron were coming in a vehicle

“Suddenly, some hoodlums opened fire and shot at their vehicle, killing Inspector Peter Sorro.”

“DPO Ifewara quickly mobilised a combined team of police detectives and a vigilante group to the scene, combed the bush, arrested four Fulani suspects, and recovered two Android mobile phones from them.”
“In the meantime, the two bodies were evacuated and deposited at the OAUTHC, Ilesa morgue for autopsy.”
Opalola stated that an investigation is underway and that additional information will be made available in due course.
