Two students of the Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu, whose identities were yet to be ascertained, have reportedly escaped by their abductors
The Country learnt that others were being held by the kidnappers.
It was not clear whether the students were the target of the gunmen.
A source said on Thursday that the pupils were among occupants of a minibus heading for Uturu from Okigwe in Imo State.
Our correspondent gathered that the episode, that has thrown the ABSU community into distress, happened between 7 pm and 8 pm on Wednesday.

Information Commissioner Mr. John Okiyi-Kalu, who supported the incident to our correspondent on the phone, said the pupils were attacked by gunmen in Imo State and not Abia as being speculated on the societal and mainstream media houses (maybe not The Nation).
Okiyi-Kalu, who noted that the Abia State Government is tracking development on the incident, said the two students escaped from their captors when they (students) were marched to a woods with other passengers.
“We’re working with the Imo State Government and safety agencies in both countries to ensure the rescue of others.
“The public and ABSU community are advised to remain calm, as we’ll spare no resources in ensuring that the safety of the sufferers.
“No criminal working within our environment will be permitted to escape prosecution. We take the task of protecting lives and property of Abians and people very badly,” he said.
