Salihu Tanko Yakasai, a former Special Adviser to Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, has stated that the All Progressives Congress, APC, will not give its presidential ticket to a candidate from the Southeast.
There are no indications, according to Yakasai, that the APC presidential candidates will come from the Southeast.
The Kano State APC chieftain stated that the party would prefer to nominate a presidential candidate from the South.
He explained that if the Southwest fails to secure the ticket, APC may opt for the Southsouth.
“As far as I am concerned, I have not seen any indication that the APC will field any candidate from the Southeast, and I do not believe that will happen,” Yakasai said on Arise Tv’s morning show.
“Even if Southwest does not get it, I don’t see the APC giving it to anyone from the Southeast, possibly the South-South, but definitely not the Southeast.”

Yakasai also claimed that the governors and elites of the Southeast lacked unity in their push for the presidency.
He also stated that the region lacked the population necessary to produce a Nigerian president.
“They keep agitating individually in the Southeast, but they haven’t come together as a group to show the rest of the country that they are indeed ready for this presidency. There is no unity among the governors, among the political elite, or among the followers. And, unfortunately for them, they lack the numbers, necessitating the assistance of one or two regions,” Yakasai added.
According to Jare Jide, a public affairs analyst, Yakasai only expressed his personal opinion.
The APC National Congress, according to Jide, will decide which zone will produce the party’s presidential candidate.
However, he believes Nigerians will be surprised if a Southeasterner runs for the APC.
“I believe that is just his opinion; the APC can come up with anything; let’s see what they come up with after their Congress.

“The APC has strong politicians from the Southeast; in 2023, Nigerians may be surprised. So, let’s keep an eye on things as they develop,” he was told.
