2023 census: Some Nigerians refusing to be counted – NPC

According to the National Population Commission (NPC), some Nigerians are hesitant to be counted for the 2023 census.

The NPC listed this as one of the challenges it was facing on Friday in Ebonyi.

Darlington Okereke, Federal Commissioner, provided an update on the trial population and housing census.

The official assured that the commission would get it right during the main census.

Okereke stated that some of the strategies used included training of functionaries and massive advocacy.

From July 13 to 15, ninety enumerators and nine supervisors participated in the trial census – house numbering and household listing.

Okereke stated that the challenges were the absence of household members to be listed, outright refusal by some people, and inadequate accommodation for functionaries.

“We will re-strategize on continuous public education and the formation of the Ebonyi Census Publicity Committee, among other things,” he promised.
