2023: Funke Akindele suspends acting career to accept PDP deputy governorship nomination

Funke Akindele, popularly known as Jenifa, a Nollywood actress, has confirmed her nomination as the Peoples Democratic Party’s deputy gubernatorial candidate.

Akindele revealed in a video posted on Tuesday on her Instagram page that she would be putting her acting career on hold and entering politics to effect change and improve the well-being of Lagosians.

She requested that young people rally behind her and governorship candidate Dr Olajide Adediran, also known as Jendor, in order to make Lagos a better place.

“I am a Lagosian born in Ikorodu, so when the PDP gubernatorial candidate asked me to be his deputy governor, I saw it as an opportunity to help liberate and improve the welfare of our people, particularly the disadvantaged youth, women, and girls.”

“My decision is not only to accept this enormous responsibility to see our dear Lagos reach its full potential, with the people as its immediate beneficiaries.”

“Over the years, many youths have been ignored and victimised for daring to dream, so I would like to take this opportunity to address all well-meaning citizens of the country, particularly the youths.” It is indeed time to capitalise on our numerical superiority and to band together to support one another.

“I’m well aware of the cost of this assignment on my vibrant career, which I must now put on hold; it’s a huge personal sacrifice, but my resolve is that no sacrifice is too great for the realisation of the urgent mission to save our people and dear state.”

“I take it with reverence and a deep sense of responsibility.” We can, indeed, create a Lagos for all of our residents.”
