2023: Tinubu breaks silence after meeting Rivers Governor Wike in France

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has stated that he and Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike did not meet in France.

Tinubu had just returned from a trip to the European country to continue high-level engagements with stakeholders.

However, a Lagos State APC chieftain, Joe Igbokwe, claimed the two met.

In a statement signed by Tunde Rahman on Friday night, the Tinubu Media Office stated that, while the APC flag bearer holds Wike in high regard, such a meeting did not take place.

“We have seen a viral social media post made by one of the All Progressives Congress chieftains in Lagos State and media reports emanating from same about a supposed meeting in France between APC Presidential Standard-bearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and His Excellency, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State,” the statement says.

“It has become critical to correct the record. Although Asiwaju Tinubu is currently in France, he has not met with Governor Wike there or anywhere else.

“However, this does not diminish the fact that the APC presidential candidate has high regard for Governor Wike.”

“And, given Asiwaju Tinubu’s national and cross-party appeal, he will not hesitate to meet with any important national leader when necessary.”

“As previously announced, Asiwaju Tinubu is in France for a series of important engagements.” He will soon return to the country.

“We would like to remind journalists that they should always double-check their information with appropriate officers before going to press to avoid unintentional errors.”
