A new attack on the Anter community in the Mbalagh Council Ward of the Benue State’s Makurdi Local Government Area has claimed five lives.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night, the villagers told our correspondent.
The victims were listed as Ave Usaar, Temanenge Kyer, Kpungu Orbakpa, Aondoakura Akume, and Terkimbir Orbakpa by the locals.
The bodies of the first three victims, however, were discovered and interred, and at the time this report was filed, a search was still being conducted to locate the remains of the other two victims.
Lt. Col. Paul Hemba (retired), the special adviser to the governor of Benue State on security issues, claimed to have only heard of the deaths of two people in the community on Tuesday at the hands of armed herders.
Hemba admitted that he was unaware of the deaths of the other three victims during a phone interview with our correspondent.
Police spokesperson for the Benue Command, DSP Catherine Anene, responded, “I have not received this report.”
