Anambra Vigilante Leader and Three Others Arrested For Kidnapping For Ransom

A leader of an Anambra State vigilante group and three others have reportedly been arrested for alleged involvement in kidnapping in the state.

According to sources, police recovered four AK-47 rifles that were said to have been buried in the vigilante leader’s backyard.
According to police sources, the suspect was involved in the kidnapping of people in his neighbourhood.

The suspect, whose identity has not been revealed, was reportedly apprehended on Tuesday, along with three members of his gang.

It was learned that their arrest by security operatives was the result of credible information provided by residents.

Police operatives led by the head of the tactical squad were said to have stormed his house early Tuesday morning to catch him off guard.

“Sometimes, he collected as little as N1.5m to N2m to free victims.” Those AK-47 rifles were hidden in a dense banana plantation at the back of his house. “Our people are being kidnapped almost on a daily basis without knowing that our vigilante leader is behind it,” the source said.

Police spokesman Ikenga Tochukwu said he had not received a report on the arrest, but that security operatives had been on the lookout for criminal elements in the state for some time.
