Arrested criminal claims father’s name at police station

After being arrested for robbery in Bayelsa State, a suspected armed robber gave the police station his father’s full name instead of his own.

The 28-year-old suspect gave his name as Zion Kientei when he and his partner were paraded by the State’s Police command.

The Bayelsa State Police Command had arrested two suspected armed robbers and discovered a Barretta pistol in their possession, according to the report.

“The suspects: one Zion Kientei’m’ 28 years and one Solomon Deizigha’m’ 29 years were arrested inside a Tricycle with MOT Number 7501, during a stop and search operations at the Isaac Boro Express Way, Yenagoa, on 22 May, 2022 at about 2140 hours,” according to a statement signed by the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Asinim Butswat.

Following the report, the suspect’s father posted on his Facebook page that “there has been a radio announcement about a robbery suspect named Zion Kientei, aged 28.”

“I am 51 years old and my name is Zion Kientei. The suspect has been apprehended and is currently in police custody. In the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I am a law-abiding and responsible citizen.

“The disclaimer made in good faith should be noted by comrades, colleagues, and family members, as well as the general public.”

He didn’t say whether the suspect was his son or a relative, though.

The suspect’s real name is MacNell Kientei, according to an independent investigation.

“The boy is simply destroying his father’s name on purpose,” a close family source said.

“He is divorced with two children and lives alone. He must accept responsibility for his actions.

“It’s just a case of the boy being mischievous.”
