ASUP Strike: Auchi Poly postpones students’ resumption to new academic session indefinitely

Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, has stalled resumption for the new academic session forever.

Registrar of the institution, Dr. Godwin Ihionkhan, made this known in a statement on Saturday.

According to him, “this would be to inform staff and students that direction has postponed resumption to the new academic session indefinitely.”

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) had vowed to continue with its nationally industrial action regardless of the ₦15bn offered by the Federal Government.

In accordance with ASUP’s President, Anderson Ezeibe, the attack would nevertheless continue.

ASUP had on April 6 announced a strike, requiring the implementation of a new salary scheme for polytechnic lecturers.

ASUP explained its decision to the down tool was supposed to draw the attention of the government to the nine basic needs of the union, adding that the necessity to launch the 10 weeks in arrears of the new minimum wage owed its members in Federal Polytechnics and the implementation of same in the several States yet to implement the new minimum wage.
