The use of SPY vehicle number plates is forbidden, according to Inspector-General of Police Usman Baba.
It doesn’t matter if it has permission or not because all permissions have been permanently revoked.
The directive was announced by the force’s public relations representative on Wednesday, Muyiwa Adejobi.
It happened after people with SPY plates continued to violate traffic laws, regulations, and other prevailing laws governing how to use the roads.
Police officers and other security personnel assigned to VIPs were ordered by Baba to ensure prompt compliance or risk being arrested.
The IGP gave the go-ahead to take action to the Commissioners of Police in the States, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the subordinate Assistant Inspectors General of Police.

They have a specific directive from the IGP to make sure that all SPY licence plates are seized.
“The owners of such vehicles should not be arrested unless they are police officers or officers of other security agencies on escort duties,” the statement reads.
However, Baba cautioned that officers must make sure that the rights and privileges of citizens are respected while carrying out their duties.
The public is urged to work with the police in this matter because the actions are meant to increase our internal security, Adejobi continued.
