Breaking: Policemen, lecturer, others killed in fresh Benue attacks

In separate attacks on two Local Government Areas of Benue State, at least five people—two policemen, a university lecturer, and two others—have been killed.

According to our correspondent, the three others were shot dead at Jootar in the Ukum LGA, a border town between Benue and Taraba states, while the two policemen were killed in Yelewata of Guma LGA, a border town between Benue and Nasarawa states.
The policemen were shot and killed at around 10 o’clock on Thursday, according to a villager who spoke to our correspondent by phone on Friday morning.

According to a witness, three friends named Fred Akaayar, a lecturer in the department of mass communication at the Federal University of Wukari in Taraba State, Aondo Ayange Apever, and Shiaondo Kachina were involved in the Jootar killings.
The witness told our correspondent that the three friends were relaxing at a spa in Jootar when some as-yet-unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen opened fire on them.
