Former Presidential aspirant and elder statesman Chief Olu Falae has explained the need for a new constitution as the panacea to the country’s fundamental problems.
Falae made this decision during an interview on AriseTV on Tuesday.
He went on to say that the document resulting from the national consensus during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure was a good starting point for writing a new constitution.
“What Nigeria requires is a new constitution that addresses the system’s fundamental issues; this was addressed by the national conference convened by former President Goodluck Jonathan.” At the end of the day, there was agreement on all issues, with over 600 resolutions passed unanimously.
“The report can be used as a working document and template for a new constitution.” It is a complete waste of time to amend the constitution. The current constitution was imposed by the military.
“We are not building a sustainable country with national unity at an all-time low, and issues will persist until we return to the political covenant reached before independence, which granted significant autonomy to the regions.” Powers must be devolved to the state in order to start over,” Falae explained.

In the midst of the country’s insecurity, the elder statesman also advocated for the establishment of a state policing system.
“We pretend to have a central police force securing a complex country like Nigeria, especially in these days of terrorism,” he said.
I unequivocally support the state police force and the LG police force. During the colonial period, we had three police forces, which were phased out after the Civil War.
“The formation of Amotekun was caused by the failure of the agreement to establish a state police force.” Even universities have police forces in other countries, and I don’t understand the problem in Nigeria.”
