Death of African migrants: Fani-Kayode knocks EU, North African countries

Former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode has condemned Morocco and other coastal North African countries for the deaths of African migrants.

He claimed in a video that there is an evil pact between some Southern European Union countries and many coastal north African countries to apprehend and kill African migrants. This, they claim, is done to “prevent them from crossing into Europe.”

This has been widely condemned. The African Bar Association (AfBA) has also condemned the heinous killing of dozens of African migrants attempting to cross from Morocco to Spain via Melilla, a Spanish island.
AfBA also stated that Melilla and Ceuta “are the European Union’s only land borders with Africa, and are protected by fences fortified with barbed wire and surveillance cameras.”

In a statement, AFBA President Hannibal Uwaifo said, “The AfBA condemns the grisly and unprovoked killing of dozens of African migrants who were hacked to death by Moroccan Security Officials while attempting to make their way to Spain, through the Morocco-Spain land border, and we term this action a crime against humanity.”

“AfBA reiterates that migrants, even if they are irregular migrants, are entitled to protection under international humanitarian law, to which Morocco has subscribed.” The Moroccan authorities acted as a rogue state and violated international law by brutally annihilating unarmed African migrants.

“We demand that Morocco be suspended from the African Union and all African Multilateral Organizations, including the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and other Continental Sports Bodies,” the body declared.
