Ekiti Peoples Democratic Party appoints new substantive chairman

Engr Alaba Agboola has been appointed substantive Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State.

Engr Agboola of Ijero Ekiti will succeed Hon Bisi Kolawole, the party’s governorship candidate in the previous election, who resigned as state chairman to run for governor.

Among the resolutions passed at today’s State Executive Committee meeting in Ado Ekiti was the appointment of Engr Agboola as substantive state chairman.

Hon Lanre Omolase, who has been acting as Chairman, and Mrs Funmi Ogun, State Secretary, issued the following statement:

“At the Exco meeting of the PDP, Ekiti State, held on Monday, 4th July, 2022, at the instance of the Chairman (Acting) – Hon. Lanre Omolase, the quorum at attendance being more than one-third of the total membership of the Exco, we deliberated on the need to appoint a substantive Chairman for our Party, in accordance with the party’s constitution.”

“Article 47(6) of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Constitution states: ‘Where a vacancy occurs in any of the party’s offices, the Executive Committee at the appropriate level shall appoint another person from the area or zone where the officer originated to serve out the officer’s tenure.’

“Accordingly, and in light of our erstwhile Party Chairman Hon Bisi Kolawole’s resignation, who became our party’s flagbearer at the recent Ekiti State Governorship Election, the State executive committee members present deliberated on an appropriate and capable stalwart from the same zone as our erstwhile Chairman and unanimously appointed Hon. Alaba Agboola as substantive Chairman, to serve out the remainder of our said erstwhile Chairman’s tenure.”

“It was also resolved that Hon. Lanre Omolase, the Chairman (Acting), should revert to his elected post as the Deputy Chairman of our party, PDP, Ekiti State, while the National officials of our great party, corporate organisations, as well as our teeming party members and the general public, be notified immediately of the appointment of our new substantive Party Chairman.”

Engr Agboola was the Chairman of the Repositioning Group, which was led by Senator Biodun Olujimi of the Ekiti State PDP.
