Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has responded to Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s call for his resignation over the purchase of an APC Presidential Nomination Form.
On Saturday, Akeredolu demanded Emefiele’s resignation, claiming that his intention to run for office would herald the party’s demise.
The angry governor of Ondo also demanded that President Muhammadu Buhari fire Emefiele if he does not quit before running for re-election. Emefiele wrote on social media in response to the statement:
“I am humbled by the increased interest in my running for President in the general elections of 2023: I have not made that decision.” I am grateful to those farmers and patriots who have gone to such far as to raise personal finances and offer me Presidential Nomination Forms.

“However, if I respond to their calls and decide to run for President, I will use my own hard-earned savings from over 35 years of banking leadership to purchase my own Nomination Forms in an open and transparent manner, in full compliance with the laws and Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Before accepting the nomination papers and contest, the CBN Governor stated that he will seek God’s face for an answer.
“And, if I do not run for political office, I will continue to serve and sacrifice for Nigeria’s decent people under President Muhammadu Buhari’s capable leadership.” This is a major decision that will require God’s guidance in the coming days.”
