Ex-Plateau Governor Jonah Jang faces trial for N6.3bn fraud

Justice C. L. Dabup of the Plateau State High Court in Jos is set to rule in the trial of Jonah Jang, the former governor of Plateau.

Yusuf Pam, a former cashier in the Secretary to the State Government’s office, is also being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice Dialup adjourned the case on Thursday, following the adoption of final written addresses by both the prosecution and defense counsel.

Jang and Pam are accused of criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of N6.3 billion in state funds.

Mike Ozekhome, Jang’s counsel, urged the court to discharge and acquit his client in his final written address.

The court was informed by the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) that Jang had pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Ozekhome claimed that the case lacked merit and that the prosecution’s case was not proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

Pam’s attorney, S.G. Odey, urged the court to discharge and acquit his client on all charges in his final written address.

However, prosecution counsel Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) urged the court to consider the testimony of all fourteen witnesses.

Justice Dabup informed the counsels that the High Court would be on vacation and that the judge could deliver judgment during that time.

The judge postponed the case for judgment until a date to be determined by the parties.
