FG recruits 250 fresh workers in NIMASA

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, says it has recruited 250 brand new cadets to man its various platforms in the Lagos-Bayelsa coastal corridor.

Mr Jamoh, who was represented by his Special Assistant on Communications and Strategy, Ubong Essien, in a press conference, said the recruitment exercise was part of their current drive to create local capacity for enhanced operations.

“So, the 250 cadets are going to be sent for training as part of our commitment to developing the workforce to man our many programs which are coming on stream soon.

“We believed that we have to develop our palms locally, which will have ripple effects on the country’s economy,” he said.

Mr Jamoh stated he had been working hard to ensure the complete execution of his three-point agenda of boosting maritime security, safety and transport development.

He explained that the new Deep Blue Project, DBP, which could be started in the forthcoming weeks, would rid the country’s marine surroundings of illegalities.

“NIMASA is investing in air assets through the acquisition of three particular mission helicopters; 2 special mission aircraft and four unmanned air vehicles.

“On marine resources, the bureau can also be investing in just two massive well-equipped special mission boats which will patrol the high seas.

“The boats have the capacity to deploy about 17 fast-moving interceptor boats — that are designed for interdiction purposes if there be any crises requiring swift reaction.

“On human resources, we’ve got well-trained Special Forces from the various security agencies, such as navy, military and police, among other safety agencies,” he said.

The director-general said the bureau had also integrated the assistance of the special police unit, C4I to run its intelligence-gathering centre.

According to him, the bureau has invested in a computer control and command centre that will be used to efficiently monitor activities on the waterways.

Mr Jamoh is known for the help of the press to publicise the agency’s operations, in addition, to educate the members of the public on the actions of NIMASA.
