Fuel Tanker Explosion Claims 3 Lives, Injures 2 in Kogi

A tanker carrying diesel lost control and crashed into two other vehicles carrying goods in the state of Kogi, killing three people and injuring two others in various degrees of burns.
On the highway between Lokoja and Abuja, it was discovered that the incident happened on Monday at 8:17 p.m., directly across from the Living Faith Church in Felele.
According to reports, a Dyna pick-up van that was parked on a nearby road also caught fire and burned to ashes.

On Tuesday morning, it was still possible to see the driver’s and his passenger’s burned-out remains among the tanker’s wreckage.
The accident occurred when a tanker transporting flammable material (diesel) lost control, collided with two articulated vehicles coming from opposite directions, and caught fire, according to Stephen Dawulung, state commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC.

He confirmed that two others who were rescued from the raging fire were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja for medical attention, and that three people were burned beyond recognition.

The victims’ bodies have been placed in the morgue of the same hospital.

“The driver was driving dangerously when he abruptly lost control, which led to the collision. The tanker had completely burned up. The fire also damaged two other vehicles and a Dyna pick-up van that was parked by the side of the road.

Because of the size of the fire, he said, “Traffic was at a standstill until after the fire subsided when the operatives of the FRSC conducted traffic control to clear the hold up that had built up.”
He urged operators of articulated vehicles, particularly those transporting flammable materials, to exercise extreme caution, adhere to the posted speed limit, and follow all vehicle safety regulations.
