Gunmen Invade private university in Cross River, kidnap student

On Tuesday night, gunmen stormed Arthur Jarvis University in Cross River State and opened fire.

Sir Arthur Jarvis, a former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in the state, owns the university.
According to reports, the incident occurred as the students were returning from classes on campus.

The university is located in Akpabuyo Local Government Area, about 15 kilometres from Calabar.

Students who managed to flee to safety suffered multiple injuries.

“The gunmen abducted one of them and left another with severe matchete cuts.” According to a source, the kidnapped student was taken into the nearby forest.

Meanwhile, school officials issued a statement confirming the invasion but urging parents and students to remain calm, adding that they were on top of the situation.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, the Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan, dispatched the anti-kidnapping, anti-cultism, and Dragon Units to the school to prevent a breakdown in law and order and to secure the release of the kidnapped student.

Ugbo also stated that investigations had begun to determine the cause of the attack on the private university students.
