Gunmen kidnap Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Peter Amodu in Benue

Suspected bandits kidnapped a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Peter Amodu, in Benue South Senatorial District.

The incident happened on Wednesday night along Otukpo – Ugbokolo Road, when armed men ambushed and abducted the priest to an unknown location.

The victim was on his way to Okwungagga-Ugbokolo to celebrate Holy Mass when the incident occurred, according to Rev. Fr. Joseph Itodo, Chancellor Diocesan of Otukpo.

The statement requested prayers from all Christian faithful in order to facilitate the victim’s release, emphasising that efforts are being stepped up to ensure that the priest is rescued unharmed.

“The Local Ordinary, Most Rev. Michael Ekwoyi Apochi, has called on all Christ’s Faithful in the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo and beyond to earnestly pray for his quick and safe release as we intensify efforts to ensure his release,” the statement says in part.

“We commend our brother and all those in the kidnappers’ den to the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary for their prompt and safe release from the hands of their abductors.”

According to reports, several Catholic priests have been kidnapped across the country in the last two months. Some were murdered by their kidnappers, while others have regained their freedom.
