In Imo State, Nigerian Army troops killed two gunmen, recovered their weapons, and arrested four others.
The gunmen, suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), were neutralised by the troops in a fierce gun battle on Orlu – Orsu Road on Monday, according to a statement issued and signed by Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director, Army Public Relations.
According to Nwachukwu, the troops made contact with suspected IPOB members while on routine patrol near the Aluminium Company and All Saints Church on the Orlu-Orsu road.
He claimed that when the criminal elements saw the patrol team, they opened fire and launched a grenade attack on the troops.
The vigilant troops, according to Nwachukwu, responded with superior firepower, neutralising two of the criminal elements and forcing the others to flee in disarray.

Four of the fleeing gunmen were apprehended, and one AK 47 rifle, two magazines, one Police grenade launcher, two Baofeng communication radios, and five cellphones were recovered, he said.
During the raid, one IPOB beret, two motorcycles, four SIM cards, five wallets containing various Identity cards, charms, and N16,460 were also discovered.
“A preliminary investigation into the suspects’ mobile phones reveals gory pictures and videos depicting scenes of cold-blooded murders, corpses displayed in shrines, and other heinous crimes committed by the criminals,” he said.
