In Zamfara, Bandits kidnap journalist

Comrade Idris Haruna Magami, a journalist working for the Zamfara State Radio and Television Service in Gusau, has been kidnapped.

Magami was taken on Wednesday while returning to his hometown of Magami, about 40 kilometres from Gusau, the state capital, after closing hours, according to eyewitnesses.

Comrade Magami is a well-known journalist of Zamfara Radio and Television Service and the host of “Su duniya manya,” a weekly Hausa phone-in programme.

“Idris Haruna Magami was heading to his homeland with his companion, Alhaji Kabiru, when their vehicle was attacked by bandits,” according to Malam Almu, a Magami village resident.

He also stated that their vehicle had done a summersault and ended up in a ditch.

Almu reported that Alhaji Kabiru managed to flee, while Idris Magami was kidnapped and brought to an unknown location by the robbers.

According to him, the robbers have already informed Idris Haruna’s family, but have yet to reveal the amount demanded as ransom.

All attempts to contact the State Police spokesman, SP Mohammed Shehu, were unsuccessful since his phone number was unavailable.
