Residents of Lekki Phase 1 have spoken out against the Lagos government’s plans to build a ferry terminal in the area.
Yomi Idowu, Chairman of the Lekki Residents Association (LERA), told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the authorities have yet to inform them.
Idowu emphasised that Lekki Phase 1 was already congested and had numerous private jetties.
While praising the project, he suggested that the location be considered so that traffic problems are not exacerbated.
“It is commendable because it will serve the entire axis, including up to Victoria Garden City.” But it does not have to be in Lekki Phase 1, which is already congested,” he said.
LERA however assured that it was willing to suggest locations that would be suitable for the project.
Lekki Estate Ferry Terminal Ltd. on August 19 announced that the construction would begin in September.
The terminal, owned by Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, would be sited on Admiralty Way waterfront.
It would service the residents of Lekki, Ajah, Igbo Efon, Ikota, Awoyaya, Lakowe, Sangotedo, and environs.
