NEMA says fire in Bodija affected 100 shops, over 350 traders

According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), over 100 shops were destroyed in Monday’s fire at Bodija Market in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The agency also revealed that 350 traders in the market were affected.

It made these revelations on Monday.

A fire in the early hours of Monday destroyed property worth millions of naira at Bodija Market.

As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire had not been determined.

However, NEMA stated in its response that approximately 100 shops were destroyed, and that over 350 traders were affected.

According to the NEMA Southwest Zonal office, foodstuffs and other valuable items worth millions of naira were completely destroyed.

NEMA stated that it and other stakeholders were notified, and that they immediately went to the scene of the incident to help.

“NEMA received a distress call early this morning about a fire outbreak at a section of Bodija Market in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.” The Zonal office immediately activated and mobilised the Federal and State fire services to bring the situation under control.

“The fire affected over 350 traders, while nearly 100 shops were completely destroyed.” “Foodstuffs and other valuable items worth millions of naira were completely destroyed,” it said.
