No permanent official vehicle for part-time members of Governing Boards, says FG

The federal government says that there will be no permanent official vehicle for a part time board member of parastatals.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, disclosed this, urging chairmen and members of Governing Boards of Parastatals (CMGBP) to entrench good governance within their respective organizations.

Mr Mustapha made the telephone on Wednesday at the induction of chairmen and members of the governing boards of parastatals by the government, organized by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, in Abuja.

Mr Mustapha, represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services at the office of the SGF, Maurice Mbaeri,  said, “Statutory board councils shall establish operational and administrative policies in accordance with government policy directives and will supervise the implementation of these policies.

“A board shall not be included directly in the daily management of a parastatal or an agency. A ministry exercises control of parastatals at policy level throughout the board of the parastatals only.”

He added, “No part member of this board shall be allowed to keep official vehicles to be used on a permanent foundation. The board will encourage sustainable and cost-efficient activities of the organization.”

The Director-General of the BPSR, Ibrahim Arabi, said the primary objective of the induction is to enable the members to understand their roles.

Mr Arabi added that the induction was for its board members to encourage corporate governance practices in the bureaus efficiently.

“This will help them know their key responsibilities and also the behavior required of them in their various organisations, both as individuals and as an element of the board’s collective responsibility,” he explained.
