Ogun man burns his wife to death

Ponle Adebanjo, a man, is accused of murdering his ex-wife after she left him due to domestic abuse.

According to reports, Lateefat’s estranged husband burned her to death on Saturday in the Otun-Akute region of Ogun State.

On Sunday, the incident was officially confirmed by the state’s police public relations officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi.

After the victim’s neighbours reported the incident, the husband was detained since Saturday, according to Oyeyemi.

According to the statement, the suspect was detained on Saturday after concerned neighbours informed the Otun-Akute division of the police about the incident.

According to reports, after the wife left him due to physical abuse, the estranged husband, Ponle, told many locals that she had no right to live alone and swore that she would only be with other men.

“The woman, Lateefat, decided to leave him after three years of marriage because she was unable to put up with the abuse. The couple lived in Otun-‘Akute during that time.

According to reports, Mr. Ponle visited the home of his ex-wife and made a murderous threat against her if she did not come back to his house.

The man beat the woman frequently, sometimes to the point of death, according to their neighbours. The woman was hospitalised frequently as a result of their fights, and a month ago, when she decided to move out of his home after renting an apartment on the same street, it was claimed that their disputes had turned into a community issue.

Despite her repeated attempts to avoid him, Mr. Ponle is alleged to have followed the deceased’s movements in order to carry out his assault. On Thursday of last week, he allegedly went to her house and threatened to burn her alive, but she was able to flee.

The victim was found praying when Mr. Ponle returned to her home on Saturday night. He doused her in gasoline and set her ablaze in the room, but she grabbed hold of him and held them both ablaze until help arrived. A nearby hospital confirmed the woman was dead after they were rushed there.

Additionally, according to the PPRO, the suspect had confessed and would face legal charges.

“The suspect turned himself in to the police after making a confession. Following his recovery from his injuries, he will be charged in court.
