New state executives have been elected by the Adamawa State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Through affirmation at party congresses held in Yola, the state capital, the party has also chosen executives for the 21 local government areas and 226 wards.
Following the Congress, Abubakar Dogara, the Chairman of the Electoral Panel, announced Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf as the newly elected state Chairman, along with Mr Danjuma Chikalu as Vice Chairman and Mr Nafama Thimnu as Secretary.
The SDP was a strong party in Adamawa just before and after the 2019 election, but its lifeline and governorship candidate, Chief Emmanuel Bello, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the end of last year, leaving the SDP hollow.
However, Barr Umar Ardo, a former governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, recently defected to the SDP, giving it new life.
Dr. Umar Ardo, a governorship aspirant for the SDP, described the congress as very peaceful while speaking at the venue in Yola.
Ardo, a controversial politician who was always in legal battles with the PDP and eventually formed a splinter faction called rPDP before finally quitting the party, said that SDP was out to rescue Nigeria and Adamawa state from the challenges of insecurity posed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the PDP.

He claimed that the APC and PDP were responsible for the country’s destruction and that citizens should vote them out of office.
“The APC and the PDP ruined this country. As a result, we have kidnapping, banditry, insurgency, unjustified killings, and a crippled economy.
“I took PDP to court 11 times because I disagreed with some questionable actions, so I am never involved in destruction,” Umar Ardo said.
