PDP aspirants in Lagos seek fresh Assembly primaries

Aspirants for the Peoples Democratic Party’s House of Assembly in Lagos State have asked the PDP’s National Working Committee to conduct new primaries, just as it did for their counterparts in the House of Representatives.

On May 22, 2022, the hopefuls said, both House of Representatives and Assembly primaries were rigged.

According to the candidates, the state’s ruling APC has entered the party’s structure.

On Sunday, May 22, 2022, they confirmed that no primary elections will be held in the state.

House of Assembly candidate for Surulere constituency 2, Oladotun Sodunke; Mainland constituency 1 candidate Aduragbemi; and Oshodi constituency candidate Muyideen, according to a statement released on Sunday.

“Delegates of the PDP were marginalized by those who had only just joined the party a few months ago, in connivance with PDP leaders renowned for working against the party during elections,” the statement stated in part.

“They forced their way through over the state Executive’s objections to the skewed ad hoc list to guarantee that their candidates emerged winners, despite evident protests from all other hopefuls, and no election was held.”

“We appealed with the NWC to intervene before the situation became a serious issue,” said the group. For the sake of the party’s survival, the PDP Presidential candidate and other statutory authorities should summon the committee immediately.

“The impromptu list submitted to Lagos was slanted in favor of the governorship candidate implicated in these egregious actions. Because the candidates’ lists were written at hotels and private houses of some of the manipulators, INEC and DSS personnel who were supposed to oversee the process were refused access.
