People living with disabilities – We have been abandoned by government

The Taraba State Joint National Association of Persons Living With Disabilities (JONAPWD) have raised the alarm over the alleged neglect of their members by the state authorities.

The members who stated they’re being marginalized could not fathom why the leadership of the nation have continued to relegate them to the background regardless of their immense contributions to the increase of the state.

Speaking through their Secretary-General, Aliyu Mohammed soon after undergoing training on disaster management that was eased by the Red Cross of Nigeria, they voiced dismay they are not being considered concerning employment.

Sad it is, “only eight out of the twenty-two thousand members of the company are gainfully employed in the state civil service, regardless of their qualifications. The need for the authorities to fashion out measures to co-opt them into its actions, they said, can no more be overemphasized.

Lamenting, they stated, “We are left by the government for unknown motives. 85% of our members are learned but felt dejected that they Aren’t being carried along from the schemes of actions”

Advocating for”sharing formula” they could not fathom why none of those members of this association was included at the COVID-19 job force, drumming that, “we thought there is COVID-19 pandemic, however, we are sad because none of our members had been given a place to represent us in the job force Committee.”

If given the much-desired attention, they believed the concept of perambulating and begging for meals could have become a thing of the past from the state, stressing that”we aren’t happy going around churches, mosques, motor parks and other public areas begging for arms”

The team who felt dejected are not always believed whenever food items, clothes and other relief materials are made available for the state to get onward distributions for your Have-not or even to victims of disasters
