Police arrest Chima for allegedly attacks his wife with cutlass over lover

The Rivers State Police Command apprehended a man simply identified as Chima for allegedly attacking his wife with a machete over his right to bring his lover into their matrimonial home.

According to eyewitnesses, Wakaego, who is now in a coma, challenged her husband for bringing his lover into their matrimonial home in Omerelu community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State on Monday, 15 August 2022, before the duo descended on her.

Narrating the incident to journalists, an elder brother to the woman, Anayo Warisi, said “My sister’s husband brought in his female lover to the house and the wife started asking him why he would bring his female lover to the house, the two of them started beating her. The husband used machete to cut her all her body, but that of the leg is more severe.

“My elder sister and brother rushed her to hospital at Elele, but she was rejected. The hospital said the wound is too deep and severe and they had to rush her to UPTH (University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital).

“We want the husband arrested because is a case of attempted murder.”
In the meantime, a Rivers based NGO, the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign has called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
Gladys Oyenmwen, Secretary of the NGO said if any one is found culpable in the course of investigation, the person should face the law.

She added that domestic violence under any guise has no place in our society and should not be condoled irrespective of who is the perpetrator.

The Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police command,SP Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the incident.

She said the female lover of the woman’s husband was arrested by Elele Police Division.

Iringe- Koko added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Eboka Friday has ordered that the case be transferred to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Port Harcourt.
