Police intercept 135 parcels of Indian Hemp in Kano

Kano State police have intercepted 135 parcels of dried leaves suspected of being Indian hemp.

SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the command’s spokesman, confirmed this in a press statement.

He stated that the arrest was made in response to the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Police, ordering a heightened patrol to combat crime in the state.

Kiyawa explained that while on an intelligence-led surveillance patrol at Damagiri village, Rogo LGA, Kano State, along the Katsina-Kano border, police officers intercepted an Ash Colour Golf III Saloon Motor Vehicle from Katsina heading to Kano, carrying 135 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp.

He claimed that when the driver noticed the presence of the police, he abandoned the vehicle and took to his heels.

“One Hundred and Thirty-Five (135) parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp valued at One Million, Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N1,350,000:00) were recovered in the vehicle during an on-the-spot search,” the statement says.

According to preliminary investigations, the driver has been a notorious drug dealer and other substances for many years.

The State Commissioner of Police ordered that the case be transferred to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, Narcotics Section, for a confidential investigation before being charged in court.
