Police Kill Notorious Armed Robber In Edo

According to the Edo State Police Command, a suspected notorious armed robber was killed in Benin City, the state capital.

Ms Jennifer Iwegbu, Edo’s Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, made the announcement on Tuesday.

According to her, the suspect was neutralised by operatives attached to Ugbor Divisional Headquarters very early in the morning.

The command spokesperson explained that at around 4:45 a.m., the Divisional Police officer in charge of Ugbor Division received a distress call reporting an armed robbery operation being carried out by Benson Idahosa University along the Abuja quarters.

She went on to say that when the assailants saw the police operatives led by the DPO in charge of the police division, they engaged in a gunfight.

According to Iwegbu, the police officers overpowered the suspects, killed one of them, and recovered a pump-action gun and five live cartridges.

Notorious Armed Robber Killed/Arms and Ammunitions Recovered

In its unwavering efforts to combat the rising rate of armed robbery and other vices in the state, Edo state police command personnel attached to its Ugbor divisional headquarters neutralised an armed robbery suspect on 12/07/2022 at approximately 0445hrs.

Following a distress call to the Divisional Police Officer in Charge of Ugbor Division at approximately 0445hrs on 12/07/2022, that there was an ongoing armed robbery operation along Abuja quarters by Benson Idahosa University, Ugbor G.R.A, Benin-city, the DPO personally led operatives to the scene with the intent of arresting the suspects.

When the suspects saw the police officers, they engaged in a gunfight. However, one of the suspected armed robbers was killed by the police operatives’ superior firepower.

One pump-action gun and five live cartridges were recovered from the suspect.

Attempts to apprehend the fleeing gang members are ongoing.
